‘The more intensely we feel about an idea or a goal, the more assuredly the idea, buried deep in our subconscious, will direct us along the path to its fulfilment’ this quote is from an old Earl Nightingale video I have watched on YouTube..
This week I am going to try and gently nudge you towards goal setting. Before 2018 this was not for me. And goal setting might not be for you.
But over the last 2-3 years it has helped me push forward towards Financial independence. I’m not there yet but I’m making some progress and that’s what I’ll be going over…
Disclaimer: this is not advice. This is information only.
There are 2 videos I have watched on goal setting that have helped me to improve my goal setting … they are old school videos … one is an Earl Nightingale vid … and the other is Earl Shoaff … if you fancy watching them the links are below …
Earl Nightingale vid – The Strangest Secret.
Earl Shoaff vid – How to become a Millionaire.
There are loads of ways to set goals like SMART goals for example – SMART is an acronym for Specific Measurable Attainable Relevant Time-bound … the 2 old school videos have been the most effective for me …
You can write short term goals, long term goals or a combination of short term and long term. Short term is like 6 months or a year. Long term is like 5 years or even 10 years…
Influenced by Tony Robbins and others mainly from personal development books, I write 1 year goals down… and even have a couple of 10 year goals … this is done every December … this way I can reflect on how my goals have gone for the year and look to make improvements the next year … incremental improvements everyday is what I’m trying to do and it is the same year to year…
You have to go away and do some research and see what works for you … see what methods of goal setting works best for you..
This year’s goals have been hit and miss to be honest. These hit and miss results have been consistent over the last few years. I SET GOALS in 2019, 2020 and 2021 so far… this will be me going forward as I feel it’s important.
DUFFMONEY is all about personal finance and investing.
It is also about getting some early financial independence. And my opinion is that setting goals will help you with early financial independence.
2022 is hopefully going to be a bit different as I aim to smash through all of my goals. I’m going to get really anal and plan my goals.
Right here we go… I’m going to go over my 2021 and miss goals and tell you how I’ve done…
I set 20 goals in total but I’ll just touch on a few
One of my 10 year goals I set back in 2018 was to be financially independent by the time I was 45 and that would be 2028… I’m doing ok and get about £1400 pcm cashflow from my 7 properties.
A goal this year was to get an extension on our home … this was started in May and completed in September …
Another goal was to do the Wim Hoff method everyday … this is something I’ve maintained as I get a 2-minute cold shower every day and ice bath on the weekend.
I have also read a book every week which was one of my goals.
A target of mine was to get my blackbelt in BJJ … it hasn’t happened 1) I’ve struggled to with injuries and my training hasn’t gone to plan and 2) I’m not quite ready … so I’ll have to keep pushing next year and hopefully I’ll be ready !!!
Another goal I didn’t quite reach was to sell 100,000 copies of my 1st book … I sold less than 500 … this was a pretty out there goal to be honest but I was aiming high what can I say …. If you want to help me get 99,500 copies sold in the next few weeks, you can find details of my 1st book at duffmoneyltd.co.uk.
Overall, I managed to hit 10 out of 20 goals… I’ve pushed hard but my approach can be improved … as I’m sat looking at my goals right at the end of 2021 … they are a bit all over the place …. I’m thinking that I need to plan goals that will help me get Financial independence … like plan 10 very specific goals that will push my further toward Financial independence … one of them might be to buy another 3 rental properties and that would be a BIG STEP towards my 10 year goal of FINANCIAL INDEPENDENCE …. ANYWAY I’ll let you know how I get on next year.
What to do
If you’re already setting goals, crack on and hopefully you have smashed through your 2021 goals. Maybe watch them old school videos as they have def helped my goal setting.
If you’re not setting goals, try to be open minded. I used to be down on goals, and this is one of my biggest mistakes to date. I was just working away aimlessly. I sort of knew what I wanted but not really. In my opinion, if you don’t know what you want you won’t get very far.
Over the last few years, I have pushed hard towards my goals with clarity, and it has helped. There are loads of benefits of goal setting but I’ll leave you to do your own research. This is just me reviewing my 2021 goals and trying to nudge you the reader, into setting your own goals.
If you have found value in this week’s post, leave a comment and let me know if you set goals and if you smashed your 2021 goals or not?
By the way, if you want some more info on setting goals, you can always read my 1st book. Or if you are on a limited budget, I have no issues sending you a FREE COPY.
